Technological singularity will happen with the emergence of AGI (Artificial General Intelligence), if we consider singularity as a moment after which the pace of technological progress will become so fast and unpredictable that existing models and concepts of development will become inapplicable.
Reasons why AGI can become a trigger for technological singularity:
- Self-development and improvement
AGI is capable of improving itself. If such a system can develop more efficient algorithms, improve its own performance and even create more advanced versions of itself, then the speed of progress will get out of human control. This is called an “intelligence explosion”.
- Versatility and scalability
AGI can solve problems in any field of knowledge, not limited to a specific area, as narrow AI does. This means that it can work simultaneously on the development of medical technology, energy, engineering, science and other areas, which will accelerate overall progress.
- Superintelligence-level decision making
Once AGI reaches a certain level of intelligence, it will be able to find solutions to problems that humans find unsolvable, whether it's climate change, space exploration, or the fundamental laws of nature.
- Exponential acceleration
With AGI, each new discovery can become the basis for the next, even more significant one. This cycle leads to an exponential increase in the rate of progress.
